Video: The Gulf of Mexico Death Throes
I’ve avoided pictures and video of struggling wildlife, but after being on the coast all week and returning home, I am made aware just how little people outside the coast understand the complete and utter devastation that is taking place right in our own country. If they did I hope that every American would stand up and demand more from their representatives – demand that the federal government admit that the entire Gulf of Mexico is in its own death throes and demand they finally stop putting profit above our people, wildlife and environment. I know of no other way to say we are sitting idly by, as our world dies around us. And I mean “death” in the most literal sense possible.
Have we all become so complacent, so apathetic that we no longer regard nature, life… human life, with enough regard to fight for it? What more must it take to outrage this nation??

Thanks for the post!
Keep this going until the world is either sick or angry enough to change the mind-set “WE HAVE TO HAVE OIL”
We must begin the transition from fossil fuels to renewables ASAP

100% agreed John! As I’ve written in earlier posts, change must begin on a personal level. We vote with our wallets. As Bobby Kennedy said, we must create a marketplace that rewards efficiencies and punishes inefficiencies and waste. And we must support only politicians who support this change. If this crisis doesn’t get us there, nothing will.

If only politicians didn’t lie. I believed Obama would be a forward thinking man, but found out he is working for Monsanto, the world’s #1 least ethical company. His actions show me finally that when you get that high in DC. you are working for the same few companies that seem to run everything, on a global level, due to the $$$ it takes to get into office – only sleazy companies seem to have that kind of dough.
So that is why Obama doesn’t actually function much differently than Bush, regardless of his intelligence.
To companies, making more money is the only rule. So more often than not, or is it ‘always’, their actions are in direct opposition to the health of humans and our planet.
I can’t imagine this changing until we no longer allow ANY lobbying, any buying off of politicians in ANY way, and the whole campaigning process should not go to the highest bidder, like with the recent eBay lady who won in California. How can a multi-millionaire pretend to represent the small people? How can a small person compete in an election? He would have to say OK to Monsanto/BP type $$$ and all the agreements that go along with it.
It is insane that along with all the commissions to oversee this Gulf crisis, one wasn’t also immediately started called “Emergency Green Energy Game Plan Commission”.
If we can go to the Moon, Mars, have fully functional electric cars, there is no valid reason to think we need to be stuck on oil. This is, again, the result of lobbying. (“Who killed the electric car” tells that very story – big oil and our government are practically one in the same).

Anyone else in the New Orleans area feeling “really dizzy” and sick to their stomach today? I feel like I’ve been overdosed with some drug but haven’t taken a thing. Not sure if it’s just a bug or the first affects of air contamination.

Stormy – PLEASE make sure you are reporting your symptoms, and make sure everyone else you know does as well. These have GOT to be reported to be counted and taken seriously.
Do you have a respirator? Recommend you (and everyone else on the coast) get one – you need to have one with an organic vapor barrier. When I was on the coast I had a P100 (OV) respirator. Get this or something similar. Shouldn’t be more than $30 or $40.
Keep talking, connect locally, form citizen action groups and raise hell!

Thanks for posting this, you know this is part of what they have been doing,
they contaminated the Tiger river in Iraq with depleted uranium for Iraqis to
drink, and that was intentional now Iraqi children have cancer, defect births and
other diseases, so what is happening is affecting all of us, and not
only the others, but let me tell you this John, I believe in the All Mighty God who
will judge BP and everybody involved in any killing whether in the USA or Iraq and
Afghanistan and other parts of the world, every body will reckon for one’s deeds and misdeeds.
