Study: Corexit Cuts Survival Rates By 50%
Jul 14th
In the video below Andy Nyman, Associate Professor at LSU, highlights a prior study done on Corexit 9500 and 9527, the two varieties of Nalco dispersant being used by BP in the Gulf of Mexico oil catastrophe.
Nyman’s study shows these two forms of Corexit cut the marine life survival rate in half over South Louisiana Crude alone. Combine this, with the review of 450 scientific articles spanning 11 years posted here and you have to wonder why the EPA is claiming its 4 weeks of studies are better than all the existing scientific data that disagree. Today I had a conversation with a colleague in Seattle. He has a pilot friend who spends summers dropping flame retardant on out of control forest and wild fires on the west coast. His friend was just hired by BP to join their current fleet of planes dumping Corexit in the Gulf of Mexico. Let’s start with this fact: currently BP claims to have dumped just over 1 million gallons of Corexit in the Gulf. Knowing all the other blatant lies BP has told thus far (there are no plumes, oh, it’s just food poisoning, the leak is manageable…), I personally do not believe this number. But it’s hard to dispute without evidence.
So consider this: the plane that my colleague’s friend will be flying to dump Corexit is a DC-10. For those of you who don’t know, that’s a hella big plane. More >
