UPDATE (Jun 27): Since posting this I’ve heard from some contacts in Alaska who firmly disagree with CNN’s assessment that “most of the Exxon Valdez oil spill workers are dead.” There are quite a few who have died, and there was one ship in particular on which everyone died. I’ve been here almost a week and one thing is certain – we are not getting the full story from either BP or the US Government. I’ve been following marine biologist Riki Ott since the spill first started, when my mother-in-law from Anchorage shared her information with me. People in Alaska know Riki very well. She’s made available the book she wrote following her work with Exxon Valdez clean up as a free download. She is asking for donations to be made available for recovery efforts on the coast. More >
