The Shocking Truth

From Clean The Gulf Now – a compilation from some of the more popular or controversial posts. There’s a lot of information on this site, so if you have a short amount of time, start here:

  • I recommend everyone watch this Robert F Kennedy, Jr video clip.
  • This is a recent thought post but one that speaks to the underlying problem here.
  • A thorough review of 450 scientific articles, spanning 11 years on dispersant use in oil spills, which I keep sending to EPA, and they keep ignoring.
  • After several hours one day trying to decipher the public EPA air/water quality data, I summarized what I found. Worth a read.
  • If you live on, or are considering vacationing on the Gulf Coast, this is a MUST READ for you.
  • The original post, tying together the money/corporate trail between BP, Nalco, Monsanto and others. Another MUST READ.
  • Finally, MUST HAVE INFORMATION for every Gulf Coast resident, from Dr. Riki Ott and Dr. Steven Picou.

Here are a few of the things you need to know, but BP hopes you won’t learn:

  • BP denies access to gulf waters, air space overhead. This is a MUST read. Two shocking things here: 1. I didn’t realize that BP owned our air and water and 2. I didn’t realize that the USCG would cater to BP in the wake of this devastation, to help them keep the extent of the damage a secret. This must stop. We are not in a communist-controlled nation. We have to stop accepting behavior that limits our access to the scene of the crime. And while we are at it, we need to remove the perpetrator from the scene so that real investigators can assess the damage and take control of clean up efforts.
  • The dispersant Corexit IS TOXIC and will kill both marine and human life. BP’s own assessment of this toxic dispersant offers the label: potential human hazard: high. Yet the EPA merely offered a “suggestion” that BP stop using it and even today hundreds of thousands of gallons are being dumped into our nations waters. Britain banned Corexit TEN YEARS AGO. As of the time of this writing 11 have already been hospitalized from exposure to the dispersant around the clean up activity in the Gulf of Mexico. As we have mentioned, there are better, safer options. By the way, the use of all dispersants is a bad idea. They fundamentally damage the ecosystem, interfering with nature’s own ability to clean up the oil.
  • **This disaster may have surprised BP in terms of size, but that it happened was NO surprise, just as the Prudhoe Bay leak had been predicted, and whistleblower’s within BP silenced.  Even DOJ silenced its lead investigator into what was clear evidence of outright negligence and disregard for safety by BP. Which DOJ and EPA members are being paid off by BP? I fear it’s all of them. Have a read of this report and you decide.
  • BP is going to great lengths to convince you that the spill is reasonable and that much of it has been cleaned up. I guess they figure if you can’t see it on top of the water we’re all too stupid to assume it’s below the water. You’ve seen the rate of oil steadily flowing out of the broken pipe. This video shows Phillipe Cousteau, Jr. giving you an inside look under the surface in the Gulf of Mexico. And if you still aren’t convinced, follow this team of scientists from University of Georgia Department of Marine Sciences, who are living on boats in the Gulf of Mexico, measuring, assessing and documenting their findings.
  • And then there’s our government, who issued a moratorium on offshore drilling, but apparently “forgot” to put it in writing. More lip service, less action.
  • Here’s a list of 10 horrifying facts after the spill, which you may not want to know.
